About Barnevelder

Richly patterned feathers and a generally placid nature give Barnevelders plenty of appeal. Our blue and gold laced birds share one breeding pen, so their fertile eggs are offered together.

Breed at a glance

• Laying ability: Around 175–200 eggs per hen in a productive year as a general breed guide.
• Temperament: Generally placid and quiet, with an interest in foraging.
• Egg colour: Traditionally brown; our pen produces brown-toned shells with speckles.
• Weight and size: Medium-heavy breed. Adult hens around 2.3–2.7 kg; roosters around 3.2–3.8 kg.

Laying numbers and adult weights are general breed guides, not measured results or guarantees for our flock. Age, season, moulting, broodiness and care affect laying; individual birds differ.

Our breeding pen

Our blue and gold laced Barnevelders share one pen, so their eggs are sold together. Chick colours and markings vary; a particular colour or colour ratio is not guaranteed.

Before bringing chicks home

Prepare a secure brooder, suitable heat source, chick starter feed, chick-safe drinker and clean bedding before collection. Each release will state the price per chick, hatch date, age and any sexing information. A fertile egg order is a separate product.

Check current availability or contact us about the next hatch. A preorder is only open when the listing has a confirmed collection window.

Collection and photos

Live chicks are for local collection in Brisbane by arrangement. Hatch date, age and any sexing information will be stated with the available group. Please wait for a confirmed collection time before travelling.

Adult bird photographs show our breeding stock, rather than the chicks in a particular hatch. Current chick photos will be added with each release.

Read our delivery and collection policy or ask Charli about availability.
