Meet the possible breeds
Each breed has its own look, character and laying habits. These facts describe general adult breed tendencies, rather than a promised assortment or your eventual hatch.
Light Sussex
A classic farmyard bird with white feathers, dark markings and a curious character. Light Sussex offer a combination of traditional looks, useful egg production and a substantial build.

- Temperament: Generally calm, curious and people-oriented; individual birds vary.
- Egg colour: Tan to light brown; shades vary between hens.
- Weight and size: Large, heavy breed. Adult hens around 3.2 kg and roosters around 4.1 kg.

Coronation Sussex
Coronation Sussex bring a softer colour contrast to the traditional Sussex shape. White plumage and lavender markings make them a distinctive addition for keepers who enjoy a substantial heritage bird.
- Laying ability: General Sussex guide: around 200–250 eggs per hen in a productive year; not a separately measured Coronation figure.
- Temperament: Generally calm and curious, following the broader Sussex breed tendency.
- Egg colour: Tinted, tan or light brown; individual shell shades vary.
- Weight and size: Large, heavy Sussex variety. Adult hens around 3.2 kg and roosters around 4.1 kg.
Read the Coronation Sussex breed guide.
Barnevelder
Richly patterned feathers and a generally placid nature give Barnevelders plenty of appeal. Our blue and gold laced birds share one breeding pen, so their fertile eggs are offered together.
- Laying ability: Around 175–200 eggs per hen in a productive year as a general breed guide.
- Temperament: Generally placid and quiet, with an interest in foraging.
- Egg colour: Traditionally brown speckled shells.
- Weight and size: Medium-heavy breed. Adult hens around 2.3–2.7 kg; roosters around 3.2–3.8 kg.
Read the Barnevelder breed guide.
Our shared Barnevelder pen
Blue and gold laced Barnevelders share one pen. A particular chick colour or colour ratio is not guaranteed.
Photos show examples from our flock. Shell shades, breed ratios and quantity in the photographs are not a promised assortment. Choose an individual breed listing if you need a particular breed.
